Gregory S. Broughton,
tenor, has
enjoyed an extensive performance career of concerts, oratorio and opera with
companies in the southeastern and mid-western states. He has also made numerous
concert appearances in the Pacific North West. He has performed and recorded
numerous world premieres including Montage for Martin. Broughton is a member of
the American Spiritual Ensemble and has toured Spain, Brazil and the U. S. with
this organization for concert presentations. He is also featured on the group’s
latest CD, “The Lily of the Valley”.
Broughton, a native of Pine Mountain, Georgia, is as associate professor of music at the University of Georgia School of Music in Athens, Georgia. In recognition of his excellence in teaching graduate and undergraduate students, he was selected as a 2004/2005 UGA Senior Faculty Teaching Fellow and was inducted in the fall of 2004 into the UGA Teaching Academy. In addition to teaching applied music, Broughton also conducts the UGA African American Choral Ensemble. He enjoys the pleasure of serving as a choral clinician and adjudicator.
Broughton received the Doctor of Musical Arts and the Master of Music Degrees in Vocal Performance at the University of Michigan where his distinguished teachers were Lorna Haywood and Willis C. Patterson. In addition, he earned the Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
